Practicing Yoga frequently gives you many benefits, including making you feel much better about your body as you become stronger and more flexible, reducing stress and pressure, in addition to improving your mental and physical well-being.


However the question that many people ask about yoga and weight loss is :

Can you lose weight by doing yoga ?

Or in another form:
What is the relation between Yoga and Weight loss ?

To answer these questions, I will tell you about 4 reasons why can you lose weight by doing yoga.

1. Yoga builds muscles:

Lots of people instinctively use cardio-based exercises when they are trying to lose weight because those cardio exercises burn more calories than resistance training.
However, building muscles through strength activities like yoga is just as beneficial because, in the end, muscles will burn more calories than fat.
Through continual practice, your muscles will also begin to lengthen and obtain more tonicity. The physical strength and fitness you get through practicing yoga could also encourage you to pursue other varieties of exercise.

2. Yoga reduces stress:

Yoga has been confirmed to be an effective method for reducing stress and treating anxiety [Tweet This], which has a great impact on your capacity to shed pounds.
So if you are one of those who chooses to eat when they feel stressed, regular practice of yoga will help you reduce the intake of those extra calories.

3. Yoga helps you to have a better sleep:

Studies have demonstrated that sleep deprivation has an effect on your production of Leptin, a hormone that informs your brain when you do or don’t need to eat and decrease your metabolism consequently, putting you on the fast-track to being overweight. The meditative characteristics of yoga help make a quieter mind, which leads to a good night's sleep.

4. Yoga teaches you discipline:

A few weeks into doing yoga you might notice that the mental aspects of yoga - concentration, restraint, relax and clarity -come to define your daily mental state, and not just when you're in the yoga class. That sense of mindfulness and discipline is very important to successful weight loss, especially when you have some bad eating habits that you want to get rid.
 As your body and mind become much more in tune with one another, you will even notice a reduction in interest in unhealthy and caloric foods.

In order to reap both the physical and mental benefits of yoga, I strongly recommend you practicing yoga as often as possible, even daily. I also recommend to choose one of the vigorous, and fast-paced flow styles of yoga, like Ashtanga, Vinyasa or Power Yoga, These classes generally last 90 minutes and are certainly have cardio benefits.
You can also be used to complement additional intense forms of exercise, such as running or cycling (related: read our complete guide: Cycling to lose weight).
