 How to Make Spiced Candied Kumquats
Kumquats are the smallest and weirdest of the common citrus fruit. their skin and zest are sweet, while the juicy insides are tart with a hint of bitterness. A winter treat, kumquats can be eaten whole, just as they are or cooked with sugar, spices to make sweet compôtes and aromatic chutneys.


  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
  • 1 lb ripe kumquats.
  • 2 cups white sugar.

Cooking Directions

  1. Wash the kumquats. In a non-aluminum saucepan, put the kumquats and cover with water then boil and simmer for approximately 30 minutes.
  2. Add the cinnamon and sugar and boil for approximately 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from the heat and drain. Cool and serve.
